As someone who was fortunate enough to be already blessed with a fairly good physique, thanks to his interest in sports including rugby and surfing, while growing up in Australia, Chris Hemsworth, realized that to play superhero characters it is important to have a chiseled physique, while concurrently be agile. Strength and cardio training
Chris Hemsworth’s trainer, Luke Zocchi, put the actor through some “old school bodybuilding” training getting him his drool worthy physique. The workout routine including plenty of body weight exercises including push ups, pull ups, crunches, dips, lunges and squats. These compound exercises were necessary to enhance strength, while also improving coordination between the large muscle groups, so important during stunt sequences.
There was plenty of cardio training too involved. Cycling for example, is something of an addiction with Chris Hemsworth. Similarly, some running stuff to warm up before the weight training is also involved in the actor’s workout.
For movies like Thor and the Avengers series, Chris Hemsworth needed to bulk up his upper body, keeping in tune with the costumes he wore in such movies, which revealed his shoulders and arms. So workouts using hefty medicine balls and battle ropes were a common routine. Significant cores work is also part of his workouts. From crunches to hanging leg raises, to weighted crunches, the actor religiously performs these routines.
Then comes the actual lifts in the gym. A few reps of bench presses are followed by some work on the shoulders using the Nautilus machine. The leg days involve lifting some real heavy stuff for squats. The actor’s workout also includes many moves using the kettlebell, since it is known to help with functional moves and stunt sequences, particularly sword fighting scenes.
A diet rich in proteins, while also containing all the other essential nutrients, along with significant hydration is also a factor behind the actor’s gleaming muscles. Remember, all those Pre workout powder or post workout shakes we keep hearing about. All of them have got to do with increasing protein intake. To maintain his Greek God like physique, Chris Hemsworth eats at least 3000 calories per day. Remember, an average person would need only about 2000 calories. It’s all about keeping the balance right. There is nothing that can be termed an all in one workout supplement.
To get all the proteins for the rippling muscles, his diet contains plenty of chicken breast, almonds, eggs, and marine food. To aid in the recovery of muscles, as well as improve agility, the diet also includes regular servings of fruits and vegetables. Also, important is the frequency of meals. Chris Hemsworth prefers to eat six meals per day.
